uCanyon Beta Update

Great_Falls_of_the_Fox_3BIV_Beta_20130218_SmallFinally managed to get several of my recent descents written up and up on the site.  These are all in the Big Tujunga Area of the Angeles National Forest in Southern California.  All of these were affected by the fires.  On the good side the approaches for all of them have been made better due to the lack of brush, unfortunately in several case this has meant more debris in the canyon itself.

The canyons updated are:

Great Falls of the Fox

Suicide Canyon

Fall Creek

Classic Canyon

More updates coming…

uCanyon Update

Hall_Beckley_canyon_3AIII_Beta_Small_20121209Well after 3 months or so of moving and settling in I am finally at a point where I can return to uCanyon.  Hopefully I will be back to several posts/updates a week now that things have settled down.

To that end I have posted uCanyon beta for Hall Beckley canyon, and should have a couple additional canyons in the next month or so.

August Beta Update Part 1

So am finally starting catch up on beta updates that I have been meaning to get around to.  First and foremost I have published updated beta for Bonita Canyon in the Lytle Creek area of Southern California.   This updated beta is for the short loop route that has been most often used lately.

I have also updated/added several canyons from the BluuGnome and Climb-Utah sites. The updated canyons are listed below.  I didn’t quite get to all of the sites this week but will get to the rest shortly.

A large swath of the Big Tujunga has been reopened.

ANF_Closure_Map_20120524On May 24th a large area of the Station Fire closure area was reopened.  The area largely to the west and south of the Big Tujunga Dam.  The updated closure area map can be found here.  Notable canyons that have been reopened include:

among others.

Just a general reminder, the fire and the aftereffects may have obliterated some of the approach routes and may have changed the canyons, anchors and hazards.

September Beta Update

So still playing a bit of catch up on the beta side of things due to distractions with the day job. That said I have been slowly catching up on the backlog of beta out there that needs to be indexed.   Below are the summary of changes I have managed to pull together over the last couple months.

uCanyon:

Little Santa Anita Canyon:

Added the uCanyon beta for this classic canyon in the San Gabriel Valley front range.   Write up includes detailed canyon description, drop map and approach/exit info.  You can also find a shirt in the uCanyon T-Shirt Store with the drop map for the canyon.

Angeles National Forest re-opens day use areas in Tujunga

Station_Fire_MapAngeles National Forest has reopened several areas in the Station Burn area over the last 6 weeks.  On May 12th they reopened the vast majority of the forest, with the notable exception of the Tujunga area and areas bordering most of the Arroyo Secco.  This opened up the most of the canyons in the central and front range areas that had been closed previously.  Probably the most notable canyon reopened is Supercloud, which has been run since and updated conditions posted by Johanna.

On July 1st they reopened several of the day use areas as well as a campground.  These include the Vogel Flats and Stoneyvale Day Use Areas which are the trailheads for several of the canyons in the lower end of the Tujunga Valley.  At this time the canyons themselves are still off limits.

USFS Press Release can be found after the break.
