Summary: One of the gems of the San Gabriel Mountains. Located just north of Pasadena it is one of the most accessible canyons in the area. It can be descended in 2 ways:
- From the top of Echo Mountain as described by Chris Brennen, the navigation and descent are described in his beta which can be found in the Other Beta Tab.
- From the bottom, which is slightly more advanced route from both a route finding and descent of the canyon point of view. The description for this descent can be found below.

Over the years several alternative approachs have been pioneered into Rubio Canyon. The maps and below describe an approach that make the core of this canyon a loop hike from the exit trailhead described in Brennen’s description. The details of the approach can be found on the approach tab. This route will add several rappels including a 140 ft rappel that is not included in Brennen’s write up. In addition to the rappels at least one other downclimb that beginners will find challenging.
