Summary: Hall Beckley is a rugged steep canyon that is above La Canada/La Cresenta. While Hall Beckley is not one of the most beautiful in the San Gabriels it is a descent canyon, particularly if you are looking to practice your down climbing skills.

uCanyon Beta
Hall Beckley canyon descends down the south face of Mount Lukens above the towns of La Canada/La Cresenta. The descent is fairly straight forward but does require some a lot of downclimbing. Most of the advanced downclimbs have been rigged for rappel. You will note that the beta below does include several more rappels then indicated in Brennen’s beta (see other beta), the reason is due to the advanced downclimbs being indicated as rappels.

Approach and GPS
The Hall Beckley canyon drop in point can be reached by two separate routes. Brennen describes a shuttle route that uses a starting trailhead on the Angeles Crest Highway (HWY 2). The other route shown below is an approach from the bottom of Hall Beckley eliminating the shuttle. It is a longer hike (~1 mile) and an additional 800 or so vertical feet. Generally the from the bottom approach will result in a faster approach, but either will work.

Descended the canyon on 12/9/2012, canyon in pretty much as described, webbing on most of the drops is just about ready to be replaced.
